For Duplex, I proposed a collection of rather small-sized works, mostly paintings and a few drawings. The work reflects on site-production, intimacy, domestic space. Teenage-hood manifests itself through the pleasures of copying and editing styles, from medieval references, throughout renaissance, to modern art, and pop culture. Any image, while translated into a painting, becomes utterly mine. In a sense, the drive would be the desire of swallowing the internet. As a result, the paintings are personal, yet they are not. Within the work, concerns are raised about the male-gaze or the notion of cuteness. Voyeurism, passivity, objectification, sexual fantasies and other twisted patterns are implied throughout the series. The portraits’ frontality enhances an impression of emptiness
but it also endows the painted subjects with a peculiar strenght.
